Did anyone actually see this dagger recently sold at an Italian Auction House?
Certainly I've never seen one like this before.
Anyway, if my computer skills allow, here is the auction house description and pictures.
"LOT NO. 1019 Dagger
category: Oriental Weapons
origin: Oman
dating: XIX century
description: Straight blade with two wires, with triple fuller; silver mounts embossed wooden grip covered with remains of leather, faceted and buttoned at the cusp tip. Wooden scabbard covered with leather decorated with impressions, with silver mounts embossed.
conditions: good
dimensions: length 56 cm.
awarded: € 650.00 (starting price € 300.00)"
I would be interested to know what the forum thinks.
Regards
Richard
PS. The auction has finished so I don't think I've broken any rules, but if the moderators think there are copyright or other problems, I apologise, and please amend as appropriate.

Clearly an incorrect compostite piece to my eyes.

Salaams Richard G,
Well isn't that amazing ? I have to say I have never seen anything like this. In some ways I wish it were Omani... it looks like a devastating weapon for close in work...Medieval looking... but its a made up thing methinks. The dancing sword hilt, Omani silver adornment on a cut down Omani scabbard. Cut down blade? Is this is a fake? It looks like it.

Salaams SwordsAntiqueWeapons, Well spotted! ...The Billao pommel. There is a similar form at Akaal Arms site on a sold item at http://akaalarms.com/sold-large-19thc-african-billao-dagger-from-somalia-ref-10178/ I wonder what the blades provenance is?

Actually, I don't think this is a cut down sword blade, the configuration of the fullers would seem pointless on a longer blade, and the scabbard looks to be made for it. The hilt I agree is more problematical. Nevertheless, could this be a genuine Omani or possibly East African freak based on an imported blade? - the first known "dancing dagger"? :)
