Had my eye on this, then it went away but came back. Still to my mind worth a gamble but not cheap. The pictures are rather bright and shiny. I have just spent the day at the British Museum which might have coloured my judgement. We will have to wait and see.

Hi Tim,

Cool piece - did you catch it? Shapewise it certainly looks like an oosic or bacculum as it is also called. Do you know where and which culture has supposedly worked it? If you are the lucky owner, I hope you will post more pics later. :)

IT DOES LOOK LIKE AN OOSIK PERHAPS A PIPE. IF ITS NOT VERY LARGE IT COULD BE A BACULUM FROM A SEAL OR BEAR BUT IF LARGE ITS THE WALRUS OOSIK. A INTERESTING ITEM.

Thank you for the interest. Before deciding to go for this item, going on the seller measurements !6.5 inches x 2 inches. I looked for something comparable in my collection. This AUS Aborigine club 18.25 inches x 2 inches which is very nice in the hand and plenty big enough for an effective weapon. So I have my fingers crossed on the sellers description. Style wise all would seem okay. It would not have to be early as in 19th century to be the real thing, so to speak. The hole possibly had a nail or even a smaller spear point in it? There is not enough wear at the hole even though blacked to be part of fire making kit. I just have to wait and hope. It is short but must have been made from a big animal.
