Never thought I'd get one but... this simple one (I believe it's) from Sarawak. Concave/convex chisel grind, Was very rusted and now, after cleaning, mostly just some pitting left... looks usable and sturdy. I think the wire wrap on handle is metal, like copper or brass or something, not sure. No carving pisau...

Whaddya guys think?

A NICE START TO A DAYAK COLLECTION :) IT LOOKS LIKE A GOOD WORKING EXAMPLE MADE FOR THE LOCALS NOT FOR TOURISTS. SARAWAK IS A GOOD POSIBILITY AS MOST TRADE GOES THRU KUCHING AND HAS FOR A VERY LONG TIME. PARANG ILANG OR MANDAU WOULD MOST LIKELY APPLY TO YOUR EXAMPLE. THAT HAS BEEN THE TWO NAMES I HAVE CALLED EVERYTHING FOR YEARS BUT HAVE LEARNED ON THE FORUM FROM THOSE WHO SPECIALIZE IN COLLECTING DAYAK THERE ARE MANY MORE FORMS AND NAMES.
A GOOD CLOSE UP OF THE HANDLE CARVING AND WRAPPED GRIP WILL HELP THOSE WITH THE KNOWLEGE TO HELP THEM GIVE YOU MORE INFORMATION AND APPROX AGE.

Nice start of a collection.

Simple, but used and original.

Check this thread for more details on this style and origin.
