That is outrageous .. but to be fair why would a punter spend that much money whilst in possession of nil knowledge whatsoever ? This sellers customer list is more valuable than anything he has ever sold !

Yes, this unfortunately reminds me of those Civil War talibongs that were bringing fairly large amounts of money on epray a few years back.:(

Best,

Ok, I'll bite. What is it we are looking at? And. What is it we are supposed to be looking at?

I think we are looking to a modified North African dagger and the seller stated that it is a native dagger from the Nort-West coast of America, look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tlingit_people

What's more bad, some people believe this story and bid so high for junk.

Detlef

I can't really tell you what we ARE looking at, but if this is supposed to be Tlingit then this thread should give you an idea of what we are SUPPOSED to be looking at if this were indeed a Tlingit knife. :)

From the leather and loop pommel it is a Mandingo dagger. The fur is not unusual as well for these.

Ok, that makes sense. On the plus side the art of creative story telling is not dead. :D

Thank you Ian for correction, so the dagger is from West Africa.

Happy to comment when I can. These daggers seem similar to some Mandingo swords I've seen labelled as being from Liberia and Sierra Leone. But I am not really sure if this is the correct and precise tribal attribution. It is not really my area. :)

Here's one of the examples I was thinking of. (http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchdetail.cfm?trg=1&strucID=472807&imageID=1169377&word=Tableware&s=3&notword=&d=&c=&f=2&k=4&lWord=&lField=&sScope=&sLevel=&sLabel=&sort=&total=148&num=40&imgs=20&pNum=&pos=41)
