Last week, I won an auction on ebay.belgium. In fact, I bid on a lamp. :p
Not that I'm into interior decorating or so, but I noticed that this lamp was a bit special.

Look at this pic :

Don't mind the wallpaper, it's not mine :D

Anyway, this is an example of the most dreadful kitsch I have ever seen.

Look what I found under the lamp shade :

A very nice Ngandu/Saka-knife, with its handle covered in copper sheeting. Total length : 53,5 cm.

It took me about 1 hour to 'fix' the knife.

Looks much better than before, don't you think so ? ;)

Seems to me that Belgians find rather unusual applications for old swords.
Question: if I want to look for, say, a Yataghan in Belgium, what categories should I search? Shoehorns? TV antennas? Sex toys? Well, that's an idea.... :D

:D CONGRATULATIONS! :D

Nice treasure buried under all that. Great you were able to shed some light on that. :p By the way, the wrap looks to be brass not copper. Nice find.

Wow!... Thats a diffrent use for a old weapon. Remind me of "National Lampoon Vacation" and the shotgun lamp! :D

Actually, the butchering of old weapons and antiques was quite the vogue during the art-deco era. :( I have seen lamps made from ancient Japanese temple incense burners (I was able to partially salvage some of them), candle sticks made from Hussars swords, another lamp featured in Fagan's awhile back made from several kula khud and several dhals, etc. Absolutely shameful, unless they can be restored. Very nice find!!
