I want to start a thread of figural handles from swords and knifes from the Visayas and Luzon and hope that you as well will show the handles from your items.
I will start with the handle from this Ilonggo tenegre: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=16422

Hope you like my idea and join in with handles from yours. :)

Great idea but quite a vast area to cover in one thread.
Like Jose I start with my 3 favorite long nosed bakunawas.

Thank you for sharing, just beautiful, like before, I hope that one day I will own a sword like this.
And yes, it is a vast area but think that there are cultural connections between both and it would be nice to see it by the handles.
Regards,
Detlef

Hard to tell.
It does resemble some kind of teeth from a small animal more than horn.
Michael
PS Very nice and unique hilt, Robert!

Nice piece Robert. I like it. Are you going to replace some of the missing silver?
Robert

Hello Jose, Yes I plan on replacing the missing silver pieces hopefully sometime in the next couple of months. I have so many projects started that I do not want to start another until some of these are completed.:o

Hi Folks,
as I am just back from the Philippines and have visited the Iloilo museum in Panay, thought to share some pics of the few arms they had. Think it would fit in Sajens' thread although one pic is of spears n shield. Made some close-ups for the details.
Crazy forms they have, havent they!?; what a nose n that bend scabbard!!!

Silver one is damaged but it could be restored. At least all the coins are present.
