I am trying to put a bit of research into 19th century French Naval Swords.
I am having difficulty finding much out on the web about the types with the Ball Pommel and Shell Guard.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Late 19th century dress sword, probably French as you pointed out, with the thin dress-type spadroon blade. It is very similar to the m1860 U.S. Staff & Field Officer's sword pattern, but one can also see a similarity in earlier patterns. Although not into dress swords myself, this is a particularly nice example, possibly gold gilded over brass(?), or am I looking too deeply-

It is heavily Gilded. Does it have a pattern date? I mut say I thought it was earlier than late 19th, but I wasnt sure.
I cant find a picture of one on the net anywhere...

Yes, French is the instinctive aproach but ... a few things don't square. Pommel shape, grip cover and anchor ornament, are not the usually seen.
Certainly from the XIX century, possibly from the first quarter to middle. These models usualy last for a while with slight alterations.

But don't take this as absolute .
Have you tried browsing under the French terms "Épée d'officier de Marine" ?. Quite a few pages out there.

It looks like its a model 1819, and would have had a Triangular section Blade similar to a smallsword type.
Success!!Thanks to everyone for helping!!
