Hey,

Just recieved this Marsh Arab dagger (supposedly called Akfa) from the US.. bought it 3 months ago but shipping was turtle slow :/ anyways, I really liked it and was surprised that it looked better then photos and had makers name on the back (Amal Taher or something)

These daggers are interesting and I want to know more about them, there is seem to be lack of information about Iraqi (and Arabistan) arms so it seems like a decent field to explore..

Very nice and unusual piece Lofty. Any of these I have seen before had leather covered scabbards. My understanding is that the so called Marsh Arab dagger comes from southern Iraq around the Basra area, but then that is only my understanding.

Hi Lofti
Stu is correct ... for the dagger, itself ... but
what it's very weird, it's the scabbard ... :eek:

it has all specifications (turquoise) to be from ... "Bukhara" (Uzbekistan) ...
far away from southern Iraq :confused:

Middle-East it's the country of ... wonders,
everything included, and more specially ... the impossible ... is possible :p

so for me;
Iraqi-Marsh Arab dagger with Uzbek scabbard, and together very beautiful

congratulations Bro.

Agree with Dom. Elgood wrote about Central Asian Bukharan masters working in the Gulf region.
Obviously, the scabbard was made specifically for the peculiar blade configuration, so they are contemporary.
Nice twist on the story :-)

thanks all!

Thats very interesting, I really like how things can mix and different artistic senses mix in a single weapon. History is beautiful hehe.

Regarding the origin of this knife, I am not sure really, my father and an old Iraqi collector claim that these were also used in alAhwaz region in now modern day Iran. Cant really verify though :/
