Yesterday ended this nice and unusual philippine bolo knife by ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=110825234159&nma=true&rt=nc&si=EVqtjVl9RQhVebM2I7nX0fthN4g%253D&sspagename=STRK%3AMESINDXX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
The seller don't want to ship to Germany so I have to pass on this one.
Do you have seen something similar before and can tell me from where exactly this bolo coming? Hope that someone from the forum is the happy winner of this nice knife.

Regards,

Detlef

Interesting knife. I'm not convinced that the handle is supposed to represent a dog though.

Hi Detlef, I also find this a quite interesting knife (because of the handle and age). The mouth seems to represent more a dragon, the ears (??) look like switches, and there are other ribboned horns coming from under and than there is (another) 'medallion'!!
Perhaps it is the fact that it is up to the creator to define how a dragon looks like?!?! Age; 1870's to my estimate.
The medaillion etc do remind me of characteristics of kampilans.
Anyone ?

Hi Wouter,

yes, the nice carved hilt from horn (?, the seller write wood) was what let me ask the seller if he will ship to Germany as well.
Agree with you that is is a very interesting knife and can't recall to have seen something similar before.
So it would be from great interest for myself to know from where it coming. If it is a dragon or a makara like Ariel suggest I simple don't know but can remember that we have had this discussion before and nobody was able to pin it down.

Detlef
