Hello all. This is a miquelet lock from an Algerian Rifle. This photo looks like it might be a Maker's mark or I.D. If so, can anyone translate this? Thanks for any help. Rick.

Hi Fernando!! Thank you for the Link.
Dom: So sorry. I did not remember. I will from this point forward. Thanks.
This is an Algerian rifle from likely the early to mid 1800's. This is a restoration I just completed. It has a modern steel barrel liner installed inside the original barrel for safe shooting. The new barrel bands were made by Armourer John Katz.
The lock is the typical toe-lock style miquelet. Other than the normal decoration the only mark I can find is on the bottom of the lock as shown in the first photo above. Probably won't tell me much, but it might be interesting (?) to know. Thanks for any help. Rick.

but I do not regret, as the pictures show a very nice rifle, with a fine restoration, respecting the old parts, it's a pleasure to be able to admire it
thanks again :D

Salaams rickystl ~ This is an interesting mark.
I thought it said Akhbar...meaning Great ~ but Dom reckons made by . I can see that...
I saw a similar mark on The "TVV kattara for comment" thread at post #149. By Michael Blalock. Both marks placed below for ease of reference.
Could it be that the simple cross on some Arab swords is related to this mark as a simplified short version..?
Either way if the marks are the same it tends to add weight to an Algerian sword origin to the subject blade..(and/or blademark) It is geographically plausible.

Hi Dom. Thank you so much for your reply. "Made by" Hmmmm. I'm going to look at this lock closer again tonight in case I missed something else. Thanks again Dom. Rick.

This is the only other mark I could find. I'm not even sure this is a mark?
Anyway, thank for you help. Rick.
