Heres a Syrian dagger I picked up a few weeks back, I think its the Magadali Shams type, interestingly {for me anyway!} it is made from an old file blade.

I know the script on these has often degenerated so far to be unreadable, but a fellow forimite has suggested that the script on this might be translatable?

Any & all help & comments/information welcomed.

Hi spiral
I may confirm you about the origin of your dagger, it's a "Majdal Shams' Druze jambiya"
your fellow's suggestion, it's too much optimistic ... :p
I've 2, and never been able to get a translation,
even if my wife is completly fluent in Arabic (mother tongue)
may be Druze language wrote with Arabic alphabet, it's a suggestion
I'm sorry for you
any way your "Majdal or Magdali Shams" is very nice, congratulations

Sorry Jonathan,

It's still much les 'debased' than the script oftem is. Don't give up hope!
Look at mine, barely more than a series of squiggles:

Thank you so much! That particular mystery solved!

Interesting its such a classic Islamic statement.

Can I ask which side of the blade says what?

Thanks Again,

Spiral
