A friend sent some images from the Russian knife exhibit. I was blown away by the quality of some items, in particular - quality and details of chiseling and inlay work. I must admit I never seen such superb new workmanship (India beware:-), see the last display with two kards with enamelled and shagreen'd mounts. Also, see a toolkit named "Young Inquisitor a.k.a Torturer", not sure what to make of it, perhaps a Russian way to grow a young generation of torture device collectors:-) ... New Knifes for Russians or Knifes for New Russians:-)

Eftihis, good eye, I am glad you noticed it:-) Yes, that is a copy of Ottoman karabela sword. The reason I posted these photos is to show what can technically be done nowadays. These are not commonly offered as their costs dictate them being sold at galleries and exhibits like this, but they are being offered at the top-line auctions and thru dealers... described as very important antique arms:-)

IT IS ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO SEE SUCH EXCELLENT WORKMANSHIP NEW OR OLD, THANKS FOR SHAREING. THE RUSSIAN KNIFE MAKERS DEMONSTRATE MANY EXCELLENT TECKNIQUES AND COVER A WIDE RANGE FROM TRADITIONAL TO FANTASY. I LIKE THE CELTIC DESIGNS ON PICTURE NUMBER 8 IT APPEARS TO BE A CROSS OF SKIEN DU, AND FINNISH STYLES. :)

Some of the Russian knifemakers are doing great work in the Nordic style/ Scandinavian style "puukko" as shown in "daggers12". I've seen a good bit of their work on various Nordic/Scandinavian knife message forums.

Thanks for the pics..
