THIS WAS IDENTIFIED AS A DONG SONG BEHEADING SWORD, KHMER CIRCIA 500 BC TO 200 AD, MADE OF BRONZE AND IRON. UNUSUAL AND A BIT RARE SO I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE WORTH A POST. AND PERHAPS SOMEONE ELSE CAN ADD MORE INFORMATION AND EXAMPLES. :)

Thanks for posting Barry. I love Dong Song stuff! :D
The only thing is the blade seems to be made of iron. Did not know that the iron age was so early in SE Asia.

Vandoo, beautiful piece and thank you for posting it!
I can’t help coming back on a previous thread about bronze knives from the Paiwan ethnic group in Taiwan. Their ritual bronze knives have been linked to the Dong Song culture -- Dong Son ( Dongson, Dongsong, Dong Song…) Culture of Vietnam is also called/written Dongshan in Taiwan.

The Paiwan ritual knives shown in this older thread are said to have originated with the Dongshan/Dong Song/Dongson culture. I find the similarities striking between these Paiwan ritual knives and the one you show here.

Hello Barry,
I'm trying to find more infos and pictures on this subject, but they are quite rare -- except for what concerns the famous bronze drums from the same culture.
If you don't mind, could I ask you where is this picture coming from? Do you have any other?
All the best,
Nicolas
