Greetings Folks!

Below is the scabbard for my sikim. I finally finished it with paduk wood and silver bands. There is carving at the throat.

I want to thank Charles and Maurice for their help in researching and advice regarding this project.

I am also posting this per request.

Enjoy :D

Oh yeah. Padauk is in the same family as narra, infact the inner core of narra is identical to the padauk tree.

Thank you both. :D

Congrats with this great result!

Even the carvings on the scabbard mouth are there....
Also the silver bands are made the original old way!

Kind Regards,
Maurice

hi jose,
how come you don't use banati? can't they be ordered as well? or is sikin scabbard normally made out of narra?

Hi Jose,

nice work, you didn't made it quite easy for yourself by using padoek.
Normally for sikimscabbards they use a very soft almost white kind of wood.

Padoek is African.

about the shape , if it was my piece I should file out the curves somewhat to make the overall look more Aceh. (see pic)

Thanks folks!

I think banati is very hard to get over here. Many sikim I have seen seem to be made of narra and so I use padauk. Yes it is very hard, but not as hard as ebony or kamagong! (stuff is like rock! ).
