Hi Guys,
My guess is 1327 which would be 1909 but there is a character after what might be a date and I'm not sure as to the meaning.
Regards,
Norman.

LOL, at least we're both seeing it as a date ;)
Looks like a persian/farsi '4' to me, but the character at the end is a mystery!
:)

I'm suprised that nobody has translated it yet. Could it be that the other characters are in a more obscure language.
Have a look at Georgian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asomtavruli) and see if you can see any similarities:

hmm these inscriptions on Kindjals are really hard to read. All i can read is the first word (right to left) and it is عمل Amal which means : work of. Even so it doesnt make full sense because its either damaged or means something else entirely since there is a space between the letter Ma and la which could be just loss to the inscription.
The 2nd word which might be a name i find it very hard to read.
The date could be 1337 if the 3rd number (left to right) has inscription loss.

Well thats three possibilities for the date now: 1327, 1337, 1347.
Do you think the language IS arabic?

our point of view could be:
AMAL MAGUIB either MADE BY MAGUIB
the date is clear 1327 no doubt ... :p

Dont want to be the party pooper but i really doubt its Maguib.
The word is formed from the following letters : Meem Jeem ba'a ba'a (maybe Ha'a at the end)
The closest readable word i can get from this is Mujabab and it makes no sense to me.

Had a reply 'elsewhere' to the request from back a ways....
Michael came up with this:
"It reads "work of Mohamed something" and the date of 1327 which is 1948"

No way its Mohammed.
Mohammed in arabic = محمد
This word is something like مجببة

Hi,
1327 A.H. = 1909 A.D. [1327 X 0.97 + 622 = 1909 ]
