This ones got me stumped. Possibly nothing, possibly something......
Lovely old patina on the wood, lots of use to the weird little blade.

Hi Gene.
For some kind of pruning?
Those marks in the spine are interesting ...and revealing, for those who are within such field of knowledge.
For instance, if this were a Canary knife, they could be from the maker (family) mark.
... or they could be something else and i am talking nonsense :o .

Thanks Nando, I thought the same about the Canarias connection! :)
The style of carving is familiar.
North African?
Scandanavian?

The handle shape and carving are somewhat Scandinavian, but the blade shape is rather strange for that region.

The combination of the chip carving to the wood and the method of the brass strip being wrapped round, with the ends folded together like that, does make me think of North African work (Algeria, Morocco). A bit like the construction used in flyssa knives...
Regards.

The ne Africa hypothesis seems possible, but my initial thought is Phillipines. There is only one pic still up and it at a wierd angle....... :(
