Other than seller's say-so, what makes it specifically Tunisian rather than more general (and nebulous) "North African"?

Hello Ariel!
Well, Nort African is probably a better description it roughly resembles a Tunisian dagger that I saw on Oriental-Arms but it might be from Morocco, Algeria; or Tunisia. Once I find a link on Oriental-Arms I will post the link. Of course a little I hope so never hurts.
P.S.- It slightly also resembles a Flissa, until I get it and can examine it and post better pictures, I can't be sure. i take what most sellers say with a grain of sand! :D

Aurangzeb, in this case the seller is one of the respected forum members here, and I personally have no reason to doubt his judgement. Of course, it is always great to know not only where a certain piece is attributed to, but also why there exactly.
Regards,
Teodor

I am not implying any malicious intent; just interested whether there are specific distinctions between Tunisian and, say, Libyan daggers.

This is great, this means that I don't have to beat my brains out trying to find where it came from. This is wonderful news that it is Tunisian and that the seller is a forum member so I can trust their judgement! :) I hope he will notice this tread and say why it is Tunisian.

Hi Aurangzeb,
If you could post some better photos of that Gaucho's knife, including its blade length and details of any brand or logo, I may be able to dig up something on it.
Cheers

Dear forum members,
Maybe i should reply regarding this dagger. It is not a matter of judgment, and i certainly do not think that state something as a "tunisian" gives more value. It is simple where it was bought from (in the 70s ) by the guy that gave it to me!
By the way, i am currently overseas and i didnt manage to send the package yet! Please be a little patient!
Regards to all!

Hello Eftihis!
That clears that up, I wish all the daggers I bought had that kind of certanty from where thaey came from! :D I have a great deal of patience Eftihis, thankfully you told me your overseas there where some sellers I bought from who never told me anything. Thanks for informing me of where the Tunisian dagger came from and that you are overseas. :)

That's exactly what I meant! We know these daggers under a generic name "Khodmi", but I wonder whether they call it differently in different N. African countries and whether there are some specific features distinguishing one locality from another. After all, Indonesian/Philippino weapons can be pinpointed to a particular island, tribe and often village. Why not N. African?
Any ideas?

It remids me slightly of a flyssa.

I think it may be some form of a kard .
It's so beat up though that it's hard to tell .
How about you take some better pictures Mark .
This thread has been around so long they're going to disappear from eBay soon .

Hello Everyone !
As requested attached are some pix of my Tunisian dagger. The blade shows some flyssa-like influence and the the hilt exhibits Yataghan/Ottoman influence. As always, any comments are most welcome !
Sincerely,
Mark....

A kard also seems likely, I did not know about North African kards or that kards chould be curved.

Hello All!
I have been doing a great seal of looking into the Tunisian dagger and I still cannot decide wheather it is a flyssa or kard. But the most persisting question to me is is this knife "Berber" or "Arab" for though it roughly takes the form of a berber flyssa very little of Tunisia's population defines themselves as Berber. But I never heard of a Arab Flyssa only a Berber Flyssa.
Any help whould be welcome.

The links have expired on eBay. Do you have pictures you can post so we can remember what these knives are?
