Can anyone help out with clearer pictures of this pattern of 'short sword/sidearm pls. I think it might be an m71?

Try 'faschinenmesser' on a search engine or pickelhaubes.com. Am busy sorting things out as I'm moving house or I would look further for you but I think either of these will get you an answer.

The pommel looks Prussian/German. Does it have a hilt mortise lock for atachment to a rifle? If it doesn't , then it probably is a Prussian M1860 Infantry falchion. The blade of the 71'was thinner, and probably longer. Also, the scabbard probably belongs to an earlier model. (M1850).
