My wife bought this for HER collection ( yes I am a man blessed with a partner who likes and collects edged weapons .... down side she keeps them on her dressing table .. scary ! )
We were wondering if any of you had any ideas on the strange bird head grip which is made of horn I think.
I have included some shots of her bedside table ..

Hi,
If my wife had this type of decorative touch in the bedroom I'd never question one of her 'headaches' ever again. :D
Regards,
Norman.
P.S. Nice pieces though!!

Thanks Norman ! Well it does mean she can never complain at what I buy and she is as keen as me on displaying the stuff .. I would hate to have a bedroom row with her though ...

Looks South American. As far as the hilt is concerned - never seen one like it.

TRL,
I hope you will consider posting some close-up photos of those beautiful push daggers I see on the bedroom wall. :)

The carved wooden handle looks like a fairly recent job. Any brands/markings on the blade to help us date it? The scabbard?
Cheers

Well, is it a carbon steel blade or stainless?

It is a strange piece. The sheath looks old and in keeping with the region, but the blade has a modern appearance and the handle is extremely atypical. Just from the photos, I am almost tempted to suggest that it is a composite, in the sense of having been put together from bits not originally belonging to each other.
Cheers
Chris
