The Dagger has been ID'd by Lew (thanks!) - I am still looking for help on the text in the blade. Regards, Erik
This dagger arrived in the mail today.
It came with some other items from an old Dutch collection of blades.
Mainly Indonesian but also some others (African and others) - collected before 1940. So far I have been able to buy 9 items.
This one is a riddle to me.
I have no idea what it is - so please help me here!
There seem to be markings on the blade and also an inscription (maybe upside down?)
All info welcome!
Regards, Erik

Yours is a Sudanese arm dagger circa 1898 probably from Omdurman. Here is it's close cousin.

Lew thank you very much for this info. The sheath on yours looks also great. Unfortunatley no sheaths were kept in this collection - alle blades come without a sheath....
Is this the type of weapon that was common in that period?

Yes it was quite common but yours is of higher quality. These arm daggers are still being produced in the Sudan but are of crappy quality.

Usually I am not into African, but both of your pieces are great examples!
