Hi all,
Been offered a Kindjal with what looked like a twistcore visible in the fullers.
There is an overlapping star pattern of four pointed 'compass point' stars.
It didn't look etched to me.
Two problems though.
1. It is a lot of cash and I need examples to compare it with before I lay down that kind of money.
2. The blade has a slight kink and will need straightening. Anyone want to guess how brittle the steel on Kindjals is?

Please help out if you have any pictures of star twistcore patterened Kindjals.

An example of twistcore Damascus Kindjal, sold by Hermann Historica:

(Alas, it seems to be impossible to save the pictures on my disc and upload them here...)

Thank you both. Yes thats the pattern for sure.
How unusual are these? The one I'm considering has plainer mounts.

I'd say, very rare...

Thanks Tatyana :)

I've gone ahead and taken a chance on this one.
Here are the first pictures of it, as its come, just some of the grease wiped off.
Can anyone tell me what the inscription says, or even waht language it is?

Hi Gene,
With the proviso that I might be talking rubbish the bottom line would appear to be a date 1222 Hegira equating to 1807 Gregorian. There is a character between the 12 and the 22 so I'm only guessing, I do hope I'm correct though. Looks a real nice piece.
My Regards,
Norman.

Hi Norman,
That would be nice, I thought that extra character was a second loop on the second character making it a 3, so I thought I was seeing 1322?
But then I decided it might not even be arabic numerals because the second loop on the second character wasn't joined, then (confused) I decided to ask for help here
:(

Hi Gene,
You could be right re the extra 'hook' on the 2, 1322 would make it 1904, I think expert advice is needed here.
Regards,
Norman.

P.S. Seems Gaucho knives are popping up here and there I do hope nice Kindjals are next. :)
