Hi all,

I'm am hoping I will get very lucky on this and someone will be able to make out some of this pommel inscription. The script appears Arabic in form, although what the language is I am not sure.

The sword is a takouba which could be quite old. The script is written in incredibly tiny characters. Which my camera has had some issues to capture - I'm hoping that these images are enough to determine if anyone here can even read it or if the language is not one we have a speaker of. I will continue to try to get better photos but after two hours of wrestling with my camera, lenses and lighting I thought I'd start out with this.

As per forum rules first an overall shot of the sword...

Looks like a coin. Like the old British thrupenny bits, theres some rhyming slang for you.

Hi,
Looks like a local coin with scalloped edges. This photo, I have rotated the image, appears to have a date equating to 1942.
Regards,
Norman.

Wow guys, thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. A little bit of digging and I think I figured it out.

It would appear to be a 1943 bronze 5 milliemes coin from Egypt.

Some of the Arabic including two dots to the left of the date match exactly.

Many thanks again. I doubt the coin is analogous to the age of the sword overall but a very interesting addition to this old guy.
