More small poorly lit pictures .
Bad lighting always stirs my suspicions .

I had no problem interpetating the pictures, but al together it feels like some composite piece.

The blade doesn't seem to fit the scabbard.
Also the side knife is something unusual and looks like a later addition.
So you buy a nice scabbard and a rare blade that don't belong together.

I am amazed that such a piece goes for such an amount.

I don't know much about these, but from what I do know, the dots look like modern colors on the pommel, and the small knife does look to be more recent.

Could it be the lousy pictures perhaps ?
Not every bidder is as astute as you my friend . ;)

Could it be the lousy pictures perhaps ?Yep, maybe someone is taking a bet that the piece will be better than the pictures.

The dots are modern for sure, and the side knife is indeed a recent addition.
But one of my main concerns is the quality of the scabbard (very nice) compared with the blade (rather poor executed) and this combined with the fit of the blade in the scabbard.

I wonder if a forumite bought it.
I would be happy if we could than get better pictures, and even more happy if I stand corrected and the fit of the blade would turn out better than on the pictures. Nuff said as far as I am concerned ;)

I KIND OF LIKED IT BUT DON'T HAVE THE REFRENCES OR KNOWLEGE TO PIN DOWN ITS ORIGINS BY LOCATION IN BORNEO OR TRIBE. PERHAPS SOMEONE WITH BETTER REFRENCES AND KNOWLEGE CAN JUMP IN AND POINT OUT ANY INCONSISTANCYS IN DESIGN OR WORKMANSHIP. THERE DOES APPEAR TO BE RECENT ADDITIONS SUCH AS THE KNIFE SHEATH AND SOME FIBER BINDING AND THE CORD LOOKS TO BE SOMETHING MORE RECENT. BUT THESE MATERIALS COULD HAVE BEEN PRESENT AND ADDED AS FAR BACK AS WW2 ITS SAID TO HAVE BEEN PURCHASED IN THE 1960'S AND BEEN IN A U.K. COLLECTION, OR THE ITEM COULD HAVE BEEN REWORKED RECENTLY. IT IS 26 INCHES LONG IN SCABBARD.
I HAVE SEEN SOME OF THE MURUT PACKAYUNS WITH THE LONG TUFTS OF HAIR ON THE SCABBARD. PERHAPS THE SWORD IS PURPOSLY PULLED BACK IN THE SCABBARD TO SHOW THE CARVING ON THE BLADE OR IS A VERY LOSE FIT DUE TO THE CURVED BLADE. I WILL ADD SOME PICTURES FOR REFRENCE SO THINGS CAN BE POINTED OUT BETTER. I DID NOT WIN THE ITEM THOUGH I GAVE IT A SHOT, ITS VERY HARD TO JUDGE BY PICTURES,PERHAPS I WAS LUCKY NOT TO WIN.
