I found this puppy at a local flea market over the weekend. The hilt is silvered with some designs "pin pricked" into them. I replaced one of the missing panels. I would place this at mid-19th century due to the quality of style and workmanship. The hilt is kamagong wood and the blade does not appear to be laminated (though have not etched yet). No scabbard (I may have to make one sometime). Since there are few of these, much less of this quality, I thought I would post it.
Enjoy. :D

Nice piece, but I love even more the fact that such pieces can still be found in a local flea market treasure hunt.
Now that's great luck.......good pick up!

Thank you - the dealer had a lot of things mislabeled (ie. an African kris? ).

Very nice find and I think you get it for a good price, crazy to found it at a flea market. By dealer who don't know what they have you can get the best things.

I have finally finished the scabbard. IT is made of wood and silver sheet with Mandaya design done in their traditional method of what I have called "pin prick" chasing, with some piercing work. Most of the designs are variations of the crocodile motif. There is black rattan binding in between the silver pieces.
Enjoy :D

Thank you folks. Based the designs on what I found in Cole's Wild Tribes of Davao District and my other Mandaya bolo piece with original silvered scabbard.
