Dear friends,
Can you please help me by translating the inscription on a yataghan I recently acquired? The yataghan is of the type which Astvatsaturian classifies as eastern Anatolian, due to the similarity in decoration to the Caucasus. Astvatsaturian also leave open the the possibility that these may actually be Balkan under caucasian influence.
Anyway, the yataghan is nothing special, but I still would be very happy to know what the inscription means.
Thank you very much in advance,
Teodor

Dear friends,

only thing that we may said;
- mention don't seems writing in arabic language
- as could be not arabic, should be turkish :p
- difficulties to read, come from also the script form seems be "sufi"
the Sufi writer ordinary love poems as way to express and illuminate mysticism,
and the long sentence on the blade, give idea that we are in presence of poem ;)

Dom,
Thank you very much for your reply. I agree that the inscription is Turkish, as most inscriptions on yataghans are. It is my understanding that Sufi poems are really hard to translate, due to the complex meaning.
Hopefully Zifir may see this topic and provide a translation, even if literal.
Best regards,
Teodor

hi,
I saw the topic earlier but I thought the language of the script was arabic, probably verses from a surah. But as Dom says it's not, I really have no idea. The script is very densely written and i could not make anything out of it, sorry.
