We talked about these Taiwanese swords and knives before on several occasions. Here are links to two previous threads on EEWRS: http://www.vikingsword.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000582.html I'm posting some pictures of the largest example that I have seen -- definitely a sword rather than a large knife -- in relation to two others that are more usual lengths for these weapons. All blades are forged laminated steel. The hilts are hardwood wrapped with rattan . Each has a small ferrule at the base of the handle. Shown below are three examples: the top one measures 19.5 inches overall, the middle one 24 inches overall, and the bottom one is a massive 33.5 inches overall (hilt 10 inches, blade 24 inches). And here are views of the hilt and suspension system for the largest one. I picked up the large one from eBay a couple of months ago. It was described as "sword dagger knife japanese philippines hundu." Safe to say the seller was not clear what he had. There are still some good deals on eBay. Ian. Nice find, man. I've not seen an older example. Iberia offers a repro, probably for more than you paid for yours.... -d IP: Logged |
