According to its own literature, EFTIS is quite authoritative. (EFTIS: 17thC Japanese Sword N/Res! Item # 911980940) This doesn't look Japanese to me. Isn't this an Indian Tulwar? [This message has been edited by Andrew (edited 10-08-2002).] IP: Logged |

Come on, everybody knows, that Eftis is so out of his field with swords, that most consider him to be a clown. Anybody remember the "museum certified Celtic Sabre"? Ih there wasn´t a chance that some fool buys this stuff, it would be outright funnier though. best wishes Soenke IP: Logged |

Now Fellas, how could this man be wrong ? ![]() After all he has been invited to sit at the eBay table at the British Antiques and Collectables Awards 2002, at the Dorchester Hotel in London. If that ain't credibility what is ?? IP: Logged |

BUT ITS GOT TO BE JAPANESE BECAUSE IT HAS WHAT MIGHT BE JAPANESE WRITEING ON IT. IT WAS PROBABLY MADE BY A JAPANESE SMITH WHO'S MOTHER WAS SCARED BY SOMEONE FROM INDIA WITH A TULWAR BEFORE HE WAS BORN I HAVE A PARANG WITH JAPANESE OR CHINESE WRITEING ON THE BLADE BUT I DON'T THINK IT WAS MADE BY EITHER COUNTRY. THE ONLY POSSIBILITYS WOULD BE IF A JAPANESE GOT IT AS A SOUVINEER OR CAPTURED IT AND HAD SOMETHING WRITTEN ON IT OR IF THE JAPANESE MADE SOME PARANGS TO GIVE TO THE VARIOUS ISLANDERS TO WIN THEIR FRIENDSHIP DURING WW2. BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ OF THEIR METHODS OF CONQUEST AT THE TIME, IT SEEMS UNLIKELY UNLESS WHAT I HAVE READ HAS BEEN BIASED AGAINST THEM. THE GOOD BEHAVIOR OF THE ENEMY IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED AND THE EVIL CONCENTRATED ON AND EMPHASIZED DURING WARS.

I emailed the seller, further to our discussions in Conogre's "Zinger" thread. Suprise: no response. ![]() Interestingly, EFTIS has the following sword on eBay identified as a tulwar! [This message has been edited by Andrew (edited 10-08-2002).] IP: Logged |

For those, who like a chuckle, Eftis added this: " Dear eBay Colleagues, Just a brief note to clarify the identity of this sword: It is a 17th century Indian Tulwar style sword with what is seemingly a Japanese inscription on the blade. Best wishes, Eftis." 17th century is highly questionable, Good that Eftis does not know that Queen Vicky is said to have doled out 2 Mamluke So leave Eftis alone - this man rocks [This message has been edited by RASFranzen (edited 10-08-2002).] [This message has been edited by RASFranzen (edited 10-08-2002).] IP: Logged |

Check out this one on ebay (Item # 713719633). I can mention it now that the bidding is done. I'm staying out of the whole "contact the seller" thread. Now regardless of whether or not this is tourist consumption or not I don't think it is chinese. Call me crasy but it looks a little, just a bit, mabey a smidge, like a philippine kris.
