A small round domed shield carved from dense hard dark wood in a shape reminiscent of Ethiopian bucklers (small shields), though those are usually made from hide. A leather covered grip is attached. The rim has a crack that begins to extend into the dome by about an inch and there is evidence of an old failed reinforcement at this flaw. The shield is 13 3/4 inches in diameter and has a height of 5 3/4 inches excluding the handle that protrudes just under 3 inches from the plane of the rim of the shield. Lew dated this to the 1940s.
