63 - Philippine Large Bowie Knife with Horn & Brass Hilt and Wooden Sheath, WWII Era

The very robust - 0.3 inch (0.76 cm) thick - single edged clip point blade has a length of 10¼ inches (26.2 cm). The edge is convex and well-honed and the blade faces are relatively bright with coarse diagonal abrasions. Both blade faces have been engraved with 'P.I.' and engraved lines accent the faces along the straight portion of the back with the shorter having an arrow head pointing towards the tip. A few forging flaws are visible and there are small patches of discoloration. The dark caribou (water buffalo) horn hilt has suffered a few very narrow cracks along the grain and has been fitted with a brass guard and ferrule as well as a brass tang washer. The knife is 15 inches (38.2 cm) in length and weighs 12¾ ounces (362 grams). The dark wooden sheath has been carved from a single piece of wood, with long slits providing access and partially exposing opposite portions of the blade faces. A leather belt loop has been attached to one side of the sheath by a rivet with a brass washer. Small wires on end nearly imperceptibly decorate the side to which the belt loop has been attached. The sheath has suffered a few minor cracks and deposition of debris, but remains very serviceable. Overall sheathed length is 16 inches (40.7 cm) with a weight of 15¾ ounces (449 grams). Lew dated this knife as being circa 1930s-1940s.
