48 - West African Hausa Tribe Dagger, Mid 20th Century

The 8¾ inches (22.4 cm) long straight double edged blade is leaf-shaped, or widest at its center; the subtle 'ears' seen at the base of the blade appear to be an artifact of the forging of the edge bevel as hammer marks are seen here and at the edge. A moderate mid-rib is present on each face and from this concave facets lead to the edges. The wood hilt is covered with embossed dark brown to black leather with slight losses. Overall length is 12 7/8 inches (22.3 cm) with a weight of just under 4 ounces (113 grams). The tan brown leather sheath has an embossed face with dark brown accents, a pair of braided loops beside the mouth and a widened tip wrapped by dark brown leather strips. Overall sheathed length is 13 inches (33 cm) with a weight of just over 5 ounces (146 grams).
