The Toubu (Tebu, Toubou) are a Saharan cultural group within the current political boundaries of Chad, Niger and Libya. This dagger incorporates the characteristic braided red-brown and black leather covering with snakeskin trim and a typical blunt spiked pommel / counterweight in proportion to the size of this blade. The 7¾ inch (19.7 cm) straight double edged blade has a low mid rib with shallow fullers on either side before edge bevels incised with a line following the outline of a blade that is straight to slightly concave in the half towards the hilt and which then narrows in a slightly concave manner to a very narrow point. There is slight damage to the leather at one edge of the pommel and the blade shows patch dark patination. Overall length is 12¼ inches (31.2 cm) with a weight of just over 3½ ounces (96 grams). A red-brown leather sheath features black braided trim and snakeskin with a braided brown leather arm band. Overall sheathed length is 12¾ inches (33 cm) with a weight of 4 and one third ounces (123 grams).
