Keynote Lecture: NON-MANDAU SWORDS AND DAGGERS OF BORNEO Michael Marlow has been collecting ethnographic edged weapons since 1974 with a particular focus on Borneo and he has extensively studied previous publications as well as having made his own direct observations during the course of three excursions to Burma, including traveling along the Mahakam river and then trekking to the center of Borneo in 1989, before there were any road connections. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Anthropology of Religion "as a hobby project." |

Lecture: SHERLOCKIAN SWORD ADVENTURES: The Case of the Swedish Sword Revisited Jeff Pringle has carefully studied archaeological artifacts in order to work out the materials and techniques actually used in ancient practice and to this end has prepared bloomery and crucible steels from which he has forged blades with features including pattern-welding and inlay. He also is adept with the decorative techniques of the time as will be evident in this update of a 2008 presentation at the Higgins Armory Museum. |
